Development Worker Progress Report

Christmas Pod event

Santa came to the Caemawr pod this Christmas where hot chocolate and mince pies were being served. We also held a consultation to find out what the community feel about the pod.

Although attendance wasn’t huge, the general feeling seems to be that the community wants to keep the pod where it is.

Once the community forums have been re-established, we plan to do further consultations regarding the pod and community activity.

Thanks to everyone who helped out for the event.

Tidy Towns

I have met with Sarah Jones from Tidy towns who is keen to work with me and with the partnership to bring some environmental awareness raising sessions to the area. This has particular relevance to the recycling banks that are being placed within the estate on a trial basis. She is also keen to work with us in the development of the area around the pod, with potential for using the space for raised flower beds.

Youth Work

In partnership with the Youth Service, we are planning two youth consultation events; one in each of the areas. The purpose of this will be to find out what activities young people want to see in their area. We are also planning to ‘recruit’ young people to form a youth forum, with representatives from each of the areas contributing to this.

Safer Routes in Communities

The Safer Routes team are organising training for Communities First staff, community members and the Head Teachers of local schools soon to start the consultation phase of this programme. I will inform the partnership when a date has been decided.

Life Long Learning

I have met with the life long learning team who are keen to put on courses in the area at subsidised rates. Please contact us if you are interested in courses.

Newsletter

the deadline for the next newsletter is the 20th March 2009, all contributions are very welcome and hopefully some of the teething problems will be ironed out this time!
